How to Search the Internet
How to Search the Internet!
Here are a couple of tips and tricks for making searching online easier….
I am, as you, still sifting through the ever growing new tablets of information called
“websites”. This is the exact reason I decided to write this article: I figured if it was so uneasy
for me at times, it must be supper hard for those who don’t have the knowledge I do. So I will share!
First things first, when doing a search you have to keep in mind that the websites, if created properly,
have Targeted Keywords, a focused Description and a relevant Page Title.
One of the first things I would do as a Newbie to the Internet or as someone who wants make surfing
the Internet easier is to remember you can narrow your results to look for the EXACT phrase by adding “ “
around the words. ( This means to put ” before the first letter of your search term and then a ” after the last letter)
For instance if I want to know what is the best dog for children?…. so I search:
Best dogs for children
I get these results:
*Best Dog Breeds For Children
*Dogs for Kids – The Best Dogs for Kids
*The Best Family Dogs – 10 Breeds For Homes With Children | Dog …
*Best Dog Breed For Children And Families | Small and Large Dog …
*Top Dog Breeds for Families
*| bestdogforchildren.net
*Best Dogs For Children
(These are actual results on the first page of Google)
But if we do this same search and this time TARGET
our search term. By putting ” ” around
our terms. We get these results.
Example 2:
“best dogs for children”
*| bestdogforchildren.net
*The best dog for children
*Choosing a Dog for Family, Best Dog for Children,
*Best Dog Breeds
*Children and Dogs – How to Choose the Best Dog for
*Your Children …
*Best Dog Breeds For Children
*Shar pei owners, help? – Yahoo! Answers
*Best dogs for kids – Dog Breeds – Helium
*Best Dog for Child ? Old Dogs and Children
*WikiAnswers – What breed of dog is best with young children
Now the phrase “best dogs for children” is either in the Title or it is in the description listed below
the Title. But you can see how adding the ” ” Changed our results. This is something to keep in mind if you are having a problem finding what you are looking for.
Another tip. Do not be scared to look beyond the first 5 search pages. Just because it is not
in the first five pages does not mean it is not relevant to what you are searching for. It simply means in this ever expanding Internet that it is not the most popular. This is due to things like; not having the right keywords or it has no keywords, description tags…… lack of traffic from not being on the first pages of the search results, in activity…..
I am now going to go to the 8th page of the same search; “best dog for children”, ( I am also going
to show the description so you can see where the exact phrase is located in some of the results):

Ok, enough with that, I think you understand that you can narrow your results by putting in quotes
exactly what you are looking for. Another tip, articles and blogs have made it much harder in cases to find
what you want, (yet in other cases they have made it much easier.) because you are now sifting
through what might be someones thought about a topic, when you want facts.
Blogs can have many post in which you get lost in all of the words. A tip for finding what you are
looking for inside of a web page is to hit CTRL (located on either side of your keyboard in the
lower left or right corner) and at the same time that you hold down the CTRL key push the F button.
This prompts the FIND command.
Now this may be located at the bottom of your screen in the left corner or you may instantly see a pop-up window which asks what you want to find. simply type in a word or phrase and push find. Mine (Vista) searches as I type each letter. This trick helps you to save much time reading. Because chances are if you don’t find it quickly you will get out of the page and go to another, and it might have been 2 sentences down.
One of my suggestions for ANYTHING you want to know about:
Try WIKI first!!!!!
I hope this article has helped. I will be writing another one soon about more tips and tricks about searching online.
