Important Factors for SEO
What to do now that Keywords aren’t important?
Well, there are many things that need to be done in relation to the placement of your website within
the search engines. One of the most important things is content! Relevant content is easily indexed by
the search engines. Good content also gives the visitors of your website a reason to look deeper
into your pages, refer your site, and make another appearance on your website. So write relevant
content, to designated pages about your services, products and/or business.
Keywords may not be a big factor for Page Rank with Google, but target words that are searched for on the internet and targeted phrases are still important. But, if you spend the time and write relevant content to what your site is about, I would not worry about it too much, because the keywords and phrases should already be in your content to describe what you do. You can do a search for what keywords are most commonly used in relation to your site, and then incorporate them into your content. But I would not spend alot of time worrying about keyword ratio.
I do suggest putting a little thought into the Title Tags and the Description Tags!
If you do not know what a title tag is, look at the tag “page” you have opened to read this article, do
you notice how there is a name. This is an example of seeing what the title tag is for a page. Title
Tags are used in the search results. Some of the programs used to build sites automatically generate
a tag that says “uncategorized” or they just leave them blank. You want to give your pages a Title Tag.
If you sell running shoes, and you created a page for the pricing, make your tag “Running shoes
prices”, “running shoes pricing”. Or you can use your use your business or site name in the title
also…. You don’t want to be placed in the search rankings for “Untitled Document”. See the link below
to get an idea about what I am describing.
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&safe=off&q=untitled+document%22&aq=f&oq=&aqi=g-c1g3g-c1g2
The Description Tag of a page is also used in the search results. So Keep your description, well
descriptive, to what you page is about.
Example:
*AWEBSITE Running shoes are high quality and affordable. View AWEBSITE prices to see the great
deals we offer on our high quality running shoes*
Anchored links are also important. Alot of people put Click Here, in order to “guide” a person to
another page. But it is better to put the actual reason and page they are going to in the link. For
example you want someone to look at the other types of dogs you sell. Make the link more like this:
**A list of More dogs for sale located on this here**
The permalink for the page should also have relevant keywords. Your page title should be, **list of more dogs**
Now my suggestions are for the “web design disadvantaged”, I am in no way an “expert” on these
subjects, I have much to learn and much I learn daily. I just like to write about what I learn and
share it with others.
Back links are also relevant to search engine optimization. The key to adding your link to another site is to make sure the
site in which you are linking to has something to do with your own site. Try to add only to those sites that have a page rank of 4 or higher.
Some sites will require a reciprocal link, meaning you put thier link on your site and they will put
your on theirs. It is easy to create a page designated for links, but you want to caution what sites you
link to and how many. Don’t get carried away and link to any site. If you sell running shoes then it
is not relevant to link to a site about auto detailing. But it would be relevant to link to a
sporting clothing store, or a site that references the best hiking spots, or a directory for
marathons…
Here is a site to check your existing backlinks, there are many sites that allow you to do this. All
you need to do is enter a quick search for “backlink checker”, to find other great sites with helpful SEO
tools.

This same site offers a tool in which you can inter a keyword to find relevant sites to link to.

Longevity of a website also places a roll in it’s placement. The older a website is the more it is
“trusted” by the search engines. So if you have a new website, allow time for your site to go up in
the rankings.
Activity- adding new content to your site not only gives the search engines something new to index, it
also shows that your site is active. You can do this by creating new pages, writing articles, writing
posts or having a forum on your site. These are all good suggestions to provide a activity and new
content to your site.
Adding Image Alt tags are not only important because the “crawlers” can not read an image, but also for those who are visibly impaired. So whenever you add an image make sure you add a description to what the image is. Even it the image is of a word, it is still an image and can not be recognized or indexed unless it has ALT tags.
One more thing I want add before I close, have a site map. A site map lets the “crawler” go deep into your site. Helping to ensure all of your pages get indexed.
I hope this article helps, and reminds you of all the many important factors of SEO besides the now “Publicly Announced” unimportant keywords.
Sincerely,
I will admit this is the second time I have read your website and Im lovin it! I added your blog to my rss reader. Looking forward to see more posts!
